Use Accent Lighting for a Specific Purpose
Accent lighting works best when it has a job to do. It may highlight artwork, a built-in, a fireplace wall, shelving or another architectural feature instead of simply adding more general brightness to the room.
Before selecting fixtures, think about the surface being lit, the viewing angle and whether the existing electrical location supports the effect. A focused upgrade at an existing compatible location is a different project from designing and wiring an entirely new lighting system.

Replacing or redirecting an existing light can often stay within a targeted device-level scope. Adding a new recessed or wall-mounted location may involve wiring, circuit and permit questions that need the appropriate qualified electrical review.
