Match the Opener to the Door
An opener needs to be compatible with the door size, weight and track arrangement. Chain, belt and other drive systems can also have different mounting and noise characteristics.
Before installation, the garage door itself should move properly by hand. An opener should not be used to compensate for a door that is badly balanced or mechanically damaged.
Ceiling Support, Rail and Power
The opener rail and motor unit need suitable support above the door. Existing framing, ceiling height and door travel affect where the system can be mounted.
A compatible existing electrical outlet is also typically required. Adding circuits or modifying permanent wiring is a separate qualified electrical scope.
Controls, Travel Limits and Safety Devices
After installation, the opener’s travel limits, remotes and supplied wall controls are set according to the product instructions.
Safety sensors are treated carefully because their alignment affects operation. Sensor replacement and repair also have a dedicated page when the opener itself is otherwise serviceable.
