Where Heat and Air Leakage Are Coming From
Insulation works best when the problem has been identified correctly. A cold room may be affected by missing insulation, air leakage, duct conditions or several issues at once.
The attic is often a useful place to inspect because gaps around penetrations and thin insulation can be visible there. New insulation should not be used to hide a roof leak, active moisture or unsafe existing conditions.
Attic, Knee-Wall and Existing Insulation Conditions
Before adding material, note what insulation is already present, whether it is dry and how the attic is accessed. Knee walls and irregular roof lines can create areas that are harder to cover consistently.
Ventilation paths should remain functional. Blocking soffit or roof ventilation with insulation can create new moisture problems instead of improving the house.
