Start With the Pump and Water Condition
A sump pump may fail to start, run continuously or operate while water still rises. The basin, float and discharge condition all influence what the symptom means.
Standing water can also involve broader drainage issues beyond the pump itself. Replacing the unit will not necessarily solve a basement-water problem caused by another source.
Repair, Replace or Add Backup Components?
Accessible float or switch problems may be repairable, while a failed motor or damaged pump can make replacement more practical.
Battery backups and alarms can be separate components. Their compatibility and power requirements should be reviewed as part of the actual system rather than added generically.
Discharge, Power and Plumbing Boundaries
The discharge route needs to move water away appropriately, and the pump needs reliable power. Changes to permanent plumbing or electrical systems require the relevant qualified scope.
