Repair Existing Stair or Replace Components?
Stairs can fail at treads, risers, stringers, landings or connections. A squeak or loose tread is different from structural movement across the whole flight.
Before repair, identify which components are damaged and whether the problem is localized. Significant structural deterioration can require broader carpentry or engineering review.

These components work together to create consistent geometry. Replacing one tread should not create an irregular step relative to the rest of the stair.
Flooring and finish transitions also matter where the stair meets landings. A new stair should be planned from the actual rise and run, not assembled from generic dimensions.
