Unbox the Bike and Identify the Model
Boxed bicycles can arrive at very different stages of completion. One model may need only the front wheel, handlebars, seat and pedals installed, while another can require more component setup. Keep the owner’s manual, packing hardware and any model-specific tools or spacers with the bicycle until assembly is complete.
We inspect the supplied parts for obvious shipping damage before putting load on them. The service is intended for mechanical assembly from the manufacturer’s packaged condition. It is not a substitute for a bicycle-shop inspection when the product requires professional fitting, brake adjustment, drivetrain tuning or other specialist setup beyond normal assembly.
Handlebars, Pedals, Seat and Wheels
The common assembly points all have direction and alignment requirements. Pedals are side-specific and use opposite thread directions. Handlebars need to be centered and secured in the correct orientation. The seat post must be inserted within the manufacturer’s marked limits, and wheels need to be fully seated in the frame or fork.
We follow the product instructions rather than guessing based on another bicycle model. Accessories such as reflectors or basic supplied components can be installed when they are part of the kit, but aftermarket modifications and complex accessory systems should be identified separately.
Assembly-Stage Alignment Checks
After the major parts are installed, the bicycle is checked for obvious mechanical alignment problems caused by assembly. The handlebars should turn without contacting the frame in an unexpected way, pedals should rotate freely, the wheels should be seated and the seat should remain secure at the selected height.
These checks confirm that the assembly steps were completed correctly; they are not a comprehensive tune-up. Fine adjustment of derailleurs, hydraulic brakes, wheel truing, bearing service or suspension setup belongs to a bicycle technician when those systems require specialist attention.
What Requires a Bike-Shop Tune-Up Instead
A bicycle can be completely assembled and still need professional tuning before serious use. Shipping can affect wheel alignment, brake position or drivetrain adjustment, and those conditions are not always corrected by basic assembly.
If the manufacturer requires a dealer inspection or the bicycle shows rubbing brakes, shifting problems, loose bearings or damaged components, a bike shop is the appropriate next step. Ward’s Remodeling does not use this page to certify the bicycle as safe for riding or to provide performance fitting. The service is limited to assembling the boxed product and completing normal manufacturer-specified setup steps.
