Attached or Freestanding Pergola?
A freestanding pergola uses independent posts, while an attached pergola may rely on the house for one side of the structure. The support and water-management questions are therefore different.
Before installation, confirm the product dimensions and whether the site has an existing patio, deck or prepared footing layout. The chosen location should also allow doors and windows to operate normally beneath the finished structure.
Posts, Footings and Patio or Deck Interface
Post locations need stable support that matches the pergola system. Installing over a deck or patio does not automatically mean the existing surface is designed to carry or anchor the structure.
If reinforcement, new footings or structural modifications are needed, those items should be scoped separately. Standard kit assembly assumes the support conditions can meet the manufacturer’s requirements.
Pergola vs Patio Cover or Gazebo
Gazebos and pavilions have different roof and enclosure characteristics. Pergola Assembly & Installation is intended for pergola structures and the post, footing, beam and site conditions needed to assemble or install them correctly.
