Confirm Entry Height and Product Dimensions
Prefabricated steps need to fit the actual rise at the doorway and provide enough usable tread depth.
The product dimensions should be checked before installation so the top step does not create an awkward final rise or interfere with the door swing.
Door thresholds, landing depth and the direction of approach should be checked at the same time. A step unit can match the rise but still be awkward if it crowds the door swing or leaves too little room at the top.
Prepare a Stable Base
The unit should sit on a firm, reasonably level surface appropriate to the product. Soft or sloped ground can allow the steps to rock or settle.
If a concrete pad, footings or significant grading are required, that site work should be completed before the prefabricated unit is set in place.
Drainage around the base also matters outdoors. Water that repeatedly washes beneath the unit can create movement even when the steps were level on installation day, so the placement should not ignore runoff from roofs or paving.
Prefabricated Step vs Custom Stair or Ramp
A kit step is useful when the product dimensions fit the entry. Custom stairs are better when the height, landing or layout needs to be built to the site.
